This service consists of a review and evaluation of activities related to product safety and liability and the issuance of a report to management. It involves a series of interviews and review of records and typically requires 2 or 3 days on site. Activities and documentation reviewed include product design and engineering, quality control, marketing and sales, product warnings, literature and manuals, management direction, and, as applicable, field service, purchasing, advertising, engineering standards, accident reporting and investigation, and others as needed. The concluding report will address the adequacy of product safety program contents and management and departmental/functional activities |
Quantitative risk assessment The risk of product accidents is measured by calculating the expected severity and probability of accident sequences. Techniques such as fault tree analysis (FTA) are used to determine probabilities of events. Consequence estimates are obtained using economic models that estimate the effect of accidents on workers and the public. Risk assessments are particularly effective in providing a frame of reference in making cost-benefit decisions. |
